Mayor Bloomberg, Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Lieber and Department of Small Business Services Commissioner Walsh today announced the City has placed New Yorkers in 20,000 jobs since the beginning of this year, up 42 percent from this time last year. After achieving a record high of more than 17,000 job placements in 2008, Mayor Bloomberg set the goal of 20,000 job placements in his 2009 State of the City speech.

On Monday, November 15, the Department of Buildings (DOB) teamed
up with the FDNY to launch a Citywide campaign to educate New Yorkers
about the dangers of illegal conversions and how to stay safe. Over
the next three weeks, inspectors and volunteers will distribute 50,000
flyers in all five boroughs.

The Department of City Planning has completed 100 area-wide rezonings
covering one-fifth of the City and over 8,400 blocks. These rezonings
are a "smart growth" blueprint which will shape the city
for decades to come by channeling growth to transit-rich areas while
protecting the scale of low-density neighborhoods.
