Accessible Vehicle Trainers

In order to provide training for drivers of wheelchair accessible taxicabs, you must sign a Memorandum of Understanding, a legal agreement between the trainer and the TLC. Courses must provide a minimum of three hours of training in the legal requirements of driving passengers with disabilities, passenger assistance, and sensitivity training. Trainers should have previous experience providing this type of training. Please see Chapter 54 for more details. Training courses must give a certificate of completion to drivers who finish the course. You must also electronically send TLC a list of drivers who finished the training.

Please call (718) 391-5501  if you wish to become a trainer or have other questions about the accessible dispatch program.

If you, as a driver, are paying the cost for this course out of your pocket you should speak to the Accessible Taxicab Owner or their Agent about reimbursement for the cost of the course. Issues with the owner or their Agent pertaining to this training and\or reimbursement for the cost of the course can be reported to the TLC by calling (718) 391-5501.
