What If I Am Found Guilty/Not Guilty?
If you are found guilty:
- You must pay the fine by the close of business on the date of your hearing. If you plead guilty, you must pay the fine on the date you plead guilty. If you fail to pay the fine on-time, your TLC license will be placed on suspension and you will be subject to additional fines and/or further action.
- If you disagree with the judge’s findings, you may file an appeal (Appeal Form). In an appeal, the appeals judge may not review the findings of fact, but rather may only review the judge’s application of the law. Appeals must be filed within thirty (30) days of the date of the judge’s decision. If you are requesting a copy of the transcript of a hearing, you must make that request in writing, accompanied by a blank cassette tape, within seven (7) days of the judge’s decision. Make that request to:
Taxi & Limousine Commission
Legal Department - Appeals Unit
5th Floor 40 Rector Street
New York, New York, 10006-1738
If you are found not guilty:
- You owe no money and do not need to do anything else. Please retain a copy of the judge’s decision for your records.
