Rangers 2008 Draft Recap
June 21, 2008 The New York Rangers selected defenseman Michael Del Zotto with their first pick (20th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. In 64 games for the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League this past season, Del Zotto totaled 16 goals and 47 assists. The Rangers provided help for their offense in the second round (51st overall) by taking goal-scoring center Derek Stepan, a high-schooler from Minnesota. The Rangers then selected center Evgeny Grachev from Russia with their first pick in the third round (75th overall) before taking defenseman Tomas Kundratek of the Czech Republic with their second pick of the round (90th overall).

Rangers Make Trade Deadline Deals
Wednesday, February 26, 2008 The New York Rangers made two trades on the trade deadline to help them on their quest for the NHL Playoffs. The Rangers sent left wing Marcel Hossa and minor league goaltender Al Montoya to Phoenix for right wing Fredrik Sjostrom and a pair of minor leaguers-goaltender David LeNeveu and left wing Josh Gratton.
Hossa, 26, has a goal and seven assists and eight penalty minutes in 36 games with the Rangers this season. He was selected by Montreal in the 1st round of the 2000 draft. Sjostrom, 24, was drafted by Phoenix in 2001. He has ten goals and nine assists and 14 penalty minutes in 51 games with Phoenix this season.
In a separate deal with the St. Louis Blues, the Rangers acquired 27-year old Christian Backman for a 4th round draft pick. Backman appeared in 45 games this season, registering one goal and nine assists, along with 30 penalty minutes.
Scott Gomez Named To 2008 NHL Eastern Conference All-Star Team
Friday, January 11, 2008 Rangers center Scott Gomez was named to the Eastern Conference All-Star Team for the second time in his eight-year NHL career. His first appearance was in 2000, his rookie season with the New Jersey Devils. Gomez, currently in his first season with the Rangers, leads the team in scoring with 10 goals and 30 assists and will be the lone Rangers representative. Gomez is a two-time Stanley Cup winner and has represented the United States in the World Cup and Olympics.
The NHL All-Star Game will be played at Phillips Arena in Atlanta, GA on January 27 at 6:00pm.
Rangers Bolster Top Lines with the Addition of Drury and Gomez
Sunday, July 1, 2007 The New York Rangers opened the 2007 free-agency period in grand fashion, signing perennial all-star centers Chris Drury and Scott Gomez. In a span of 24 hours, the Rangers signed two players that totaled 129 points during the 2006-07 season. Drury, co-captain of the 2007 Eastern Conference champion Buffalo Sabres, scored 37 goals and tallied 32 assists in 77 games last season. He also led the Sabres in postseason goals (8) and postseason game-winning goals (3), displaying his knack for playing great in big games. Gomez, well known as one of the game’s elite passers, tallied 13 goals and 47 assists in 72 games last season. Also known for his performance in big games, Gomez led the New Jersey Devils in both postseason points (14) and assists (10). Both Drury (2001) and Gomez (2000, 2003) have hoisted the Stanley Cup, bringing much needed playoff experience to a team that looks to advance deep into the playoffs.
Rangers 2007 Draft Recap
June 23, 2007 The New York Rangers selected right wing Alexei Cherepanov with their first pick (17th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Playing for Avangard Omsk in Russia, Cherepanov netted 18 goals and 11 assists in 41 total games. The 18-year-old winger will continue to play in Russia, in an effort to further develop his skills. With their second pick (48th overall), the Rangers took Antoine LaFleur, a goalie from the Prince Edward Island Rocket of the Ontario Hockey League. The Rangers did not pick again until the 5th round, where they took center Max Campbell, who next season will head to college to play for Western Michigan University.
