Hispanic Games
What: Hispanic Games
When: January 10-11, 2009
Where:: New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory

More than 6,000 athletes from over 200 high schools are expected to compete in The Hispanic Games, making it the largest two-day high school indoor track & field event in the country. In addition to individual awards and accolades for athletes' performances on the track, 18 "Leaders of Tomorrow" will be selected, honoring outstanding Hispanic student athletes from the Tri-State area.

The Hispanic Games kick off on Saturday at 9:00am, with boys’ and girls’ 55m hurdles and dash trials. The top eight times in each trial will advance to the finals later in the day. Day One of the Hispanic Games will also feature runs, dashes, and hurdles of various distances along with many field events such as the pole vault, shot put, long jump and high jump. The day’s premier events are the Varsity boys’ and girls’ mile run and 400m dash.

Day Two of the Hispanic Games will feature freshmen, sophomore and class events (events in which the athlete has not won a medal during the current 2008-2009 season on any level) participating in relay distances of 800m, 1600m and 3200m. The field events include shot put, long and high jump and pole vault. The day is highlighted by freshmen girls’ and boys’ invitational mile runs starting at 1:25pm and 1:30pm, respectively.

The Hispanic Games are held each year as a way of reaching out to the Hispanic community and to provide a positive experience for youths. During the Hispanic Games, the “Leaders of Tomorrow” Award will be presented to recognize exceptional student-athletes in the Hispanic community.
