Grants/Budget Analyst

Work Location: 165 Cadman Plaza East, Brooklyn, NY 11201 Hours/Shift: M-F, 9-5

Position is grant funded until December 1, 2011 with the possibility of an extension.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The assistant grant/budget analyst will report to the Director of Finance and Grants and will be responsible for following activities:

  • Managing the day's financial tasks.
  • Preparing the agency’s expense budget including scheduling, spending and monitoring of the agency’s fiscal activities on FMS.
  • Tracking and monitoring expenditures to ensure that all reimbursable costs are identified and claimed (Revenue Accounting).
  • Assisting in preparing monthly variance reports, quarterly spending plans, revenue reports, and any other ad hoc reports for comptroller and the budget oversight agency.
  • Maintaining reporting spreadsheets. 
  • Performing accounting activities to modify, transfer, and reconcile budget accounts.
  • Reviewing and approving payments to vendors.
  • Assisting with Ready NY presentations to external groups.

The selected candidate will be assigned to a periodic Emergency Operations Center team and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or

  2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible experience as described in “1” above; or

  3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible experience as described in “1” above; or

  4. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1”, “2” or “3” above.  However, all candidates must possess the one year of administrative or supervisory experience as described in “1” above.  Education above the high school level may be substituted for the general clerical/administrative experience (but not for the one year of administrative or supervisory experience described in “1” above) at a rate of 30 semester credits for an accredited college for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 3 ½  years.

    PLEASE NOTE:  NYC Residency is required within 90 days of appointment. However, City employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putman, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Previous budget/finance experience.
  • Familiarity with the City’s financial management system a plus.
  • Computer skills.
  • Quantitative, analytical and communication skills both written and oral desired.
