There are also non-traditional options for individuals who want to further their education but who find going to classes and traveling is an unreasonable burden.  Two fully accredited options are discussed below.

EMPIRE STATE COLLEGE

As part of the State University of New York, Empire State College is a unique alternative to traditional college studies.  Students, with the help of a mentor, can take college courses at home, attending only limited sessions.  Students at Empire State College may pursue Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a number of different areas. Empire State College allows transfer and life experience credits. For further information, call 1.800.468.6372 or website www.esc.edu

EXCELSIOR COLLEGE

Excelsior College is an evaluating and assessing institution.  Its’ philosophy is based on the belief that college-level learning, which has been acquired in a variety of settings, can be objectively and comprehensively documented through transcripts, written or performance examinations, and other academically sound procedures.

In addition to credits already completed, students can complete their degree through computer and video courses, independent study, credit by examination, and other methods.  Excelsior College is a private institution that is fully accredited and that is part of the University of the State of New York, and is not to be confused with the State University of New York.
