LESSONS/PROGRAMS

PRESENTATIONS  A series of lectures designed to engage the student audience utilizing interactive lecture techniques to raise awareness on various social issues.

  • Conflict Resolution-instruction on positive alternatives/tactics to effectively resolve conflicts.
  • Cyber Bullying-instruction on the various types of conflicts taking place via the internet and how they can be avoided.
  • Internet Safety-lesson which provides helpful tips on being safe while searching the internet.
  • Peer Pressure-lecture type lesson providing instruction on different strategies to resist negative peer pressure.
  • Sexual Offense-instruction on the various penal law sexual offenses and the consequences of inappropriate touching and the need for students to seek assistance when confronted as a victim. 
  • Understanding the Law-lesson which gives a brief description of penal law violations/crimes; along with review of Chancellor’s Rules and Regulations.
  • Gang Awareness-instruction on the consequences of being involved in a gang and the need for students to seek assistance when confronted as a victim.
  • Teen Violence and the Juvenile Justice System – lecture type lesson which explains the consequences of teen violence and the process of the juvenile justice system.
  • SAD (Smoking, Alcohol and Drugs) – lecture type lesson which instructs on the dangers associated with abuse of legal or illegal substances.
  • Date Violence –lecture type lesson providing instruction to teens on how to identify violence in teen relationships and the negative impact it has on youth today.
  • Stress – lecture type lesson which explains the effects of stress on the body and positive ways to relive stress.
  • Graffiti –instruction on the legal aspect of Graffiti and exposes students to positive resources and alternatives to destructive behavior.
  • Halloween Safety Tips-instruction on the basic safety precautions that can make Halloween safe as well as fun. 

SOCIO DRAMAS lessons employing scripted and staged dramatic presentations to engage the audience and raise awareness on various social issues.

·         Bullying/Conflict Resolution-drama which instructs on positive alternatives/tactics to effectively resolve conflicts.

·         Gang Recruitment-drama which provides instruction on the consequences of gang recruitment and to recognize the need to seek assistance when confronted as a victim.  

·         Shoplifting-drama which provides instruction on the consequences of shoplifting and identifies the inappropriate behavior associated with it. 

·         Drug Abuse-drama which provides instruction on the physical and psychological signs associated with drug use.

·         Sexual Offense-drama which provides instruction on the consequences of inappropriate touching and the need for students to seek assistance when confronted as a victim. 

SCHOOL PROGRAMS

  • Law Enforcement Exploring Program 

Community Service career-oriented program designed to educate young men and women, ages 14-20, about Law Enforcement. Program fosters a positive relationship between youth and the Police Department and expands the participant’s knowledge of law enforcement.  SSD currently has 10 active SSD Explorer posts within the 5 Boroughs.

  • All Star–Elementary School Program

This is a program which emphasizes building character/self-esteem, self-discipline, and leadership skills along with promoting team work.  It also raises awareness about the harmful effects of peer pressure and participation in gangs, and how to resolve conflicts peacefully.

  • Think First–Middle School Program

This is a program which emphasizes building character/self-esteem, self-discipline, and leadership skills along with promoting team work.  It also raises awareness about the harmful effects of peer pressure and participation in gangs, and how to resolve conflicts peacefully.

  • My School Has Rhythm Not Violence–High School Program

Program for high school youth between the ages of 14-20, designed to educate and empower students with techniques and tools on how to take an active role in helping to reduce verbal and physical confrontations occurring in their school. The curriculum focuses on utilizing various drama based techniques, classroom lectures/presentations, and incorporating music with the assistance of popular radio stations.

  • Achieve to Succeed

This program is designed to educate and empower High School students with information on the many different career opportunities available to them. The curriculum includes an extracurricular activity such as a competitive basketball game and/or musical performance.
