Whelan Crime Statistics 153 East 67th Street, New York, NY, 10065 (212) 452-0600 The 19th Precinct has a population which is one of the densest in the nation, with residents estimated at 217,063. The southern part of the precinct has a large commercial area and the famous avenues of - Madison, Lexington and 3rd, well known for their shopping. There are also many dignitaries and diplomats that reside or own real estate within the precinct. There are currently 32 foreign mission, 12 consulates, and 70 ambassador and counsel general residences.

The drastic reductions in crime certainly would not have been possible without the dedication and cooperation of the community that we serve. We would like to thank all of the members of the 19th Precinct community for their support throughout the year. We would like to invite all of you that are interested in becoming involved to take a look at the listing of civilian participation programs included in this site. One of the programs that has become particularly popular this past year is Community on Patrol. In this program participants are trained in how to be the eyes and ears of the Police Department. These volunteers patrol their block in a bright orange jacket that also acts as a deterent to crime. In certain circumstances volunteers are also equipped with cellphones that were generously donated by Bell Atlantic Mobile/Verizon. It is programs like this one and the others that the Police Department offers that make our community safe for everyone. Click here to see upcoming community council events
