Now in its 36th year of publication, the New York City Housing Authority
Journal is a 16-page, bilingual, tabloid newspaper that is published monthly by
the New York City Housing Authority’s Department of Public and Community
Relations. The Journal provides a round-up of Authority-wide news, with a
focus on residents. Each issue includes a column from the Mayor and the
Housing Authority Chairman. There is often also a column by the Housing Bureau
Police Chief. Other features include a column by staff writer Deborah
Williams highlighting resident achievements. A list of former residents who have
been excluded from public housing appears in each issue in a column entitled,
“The NYCHA Not Wanted List.”
Circulation
The Journal is hand-delivered to each of the 181,000 apartments in NYCHA’s 345 public housing developments throughout the five boroughs. It is also distributed to approximately 12,000 NYCHA employees, and mailed to elected officials.
The Journal recently became available online through an e-mail subscription service that already has over 10,000 subscribers. To sign up, click on the “Sign-up for NYCHA Journal” on the lower right corner of our banner or “E-Mail Updates” at nyc.gov.
