Mechanical Engineer - Technical Services

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Coordinator for Plumbing Administration, the engineer shall perform supervisory and/or difficult and responsible work in mechanical engineering. Duties shall include, but not be limited to the following:

  1. Plan, review and organize work related to the repair and replacement of gas fired equipment and the installation and operation of fire suppression equipment located in NYCHA properties.
  2. Work closely with the Department of Buildings to examine the engineering aspects of plans for the repair or replacement of gas fired and fire suppression equipment to ensure adherence to building codes and other pertinent laws, rules and regulations.
  3. Conduct complex research, investigations, studies or examinations related to the engineering functions of the department.
  4. Represent Unit at meetings with other NYCHA Departments, city agencies, contractors, consultants and the general public.
  5. Prepare and review the engineering aspects of the basic design plan for the construction, remodeling, operation, maintenance or repair of public works, structures and equipment.
  6. Participate in the collection and organization of information related to the proper operation of gas fired and fire suppression equipment.
  7. Sign and seal engineering and other official documents as requested.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

A valid New York State Professional Engineer's License and four years of full-time experience in mechanical engineering. A Master's Degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college will be accepted as equivalent to one year of the full-time experience in mechanical engineering.

SPECIAL NOTE

In addition to the above qualification requirements, to be eligible for placement in Assignment Levels II and III, individual must have at least one year within the last three years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.
