9/11 Job Loss Career Counseling

Did you lose your job or have a reduction in your income as a result of the September 11th attacks? If so, you may be eligible for career counseling, employment search, and training services.

If you are a dependent family member of someone who died in the September 11th attacks, regardless of your employment before September 11th, you may be eligible.

If you worked South of Canal Street or in Chinatown (north of Canal Street bounded to the east by Essex Street, to the north by Delancey Street and by Broadway to the west) in New York City before 9/11/01 AND you are currently:

  1. Unemployed:
    a person who is not employed/working at the time of eligibility determination and who became unemployed during the period September 11, 2001 to January 11, 2002.

  2. Underemployed:

    • An individual who became unemployed at some point during the period September 11, 2001 to January 11, 2002, but is currently employed at gross wages of less than 70% of pre-September 11, 2001 wage income.

    • An individual who experienced a reduction in earnings during the period September 11, 2001, to January 11, 2002, resulting in wages of less than 70% of pre-September 11, 2001, wage income and who is currently realizing gross wages of less than 70% of pre-September 11, 2001 wage income.

Available programs include assessment/career coaching, job search assistance (and cash support for job search costs), and education and training (including English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education, Job Training, and Job Placement), as well as income support for individuals involved in such programs.
