Smoking Cessation

Smokers who quit at any age reduce their risk of tobacco-related disease and prolong their lives. More than two-thirds of smokers say they want to quit, and every year, over 40 percent try. However, without assistance, fewer than 10 percent are successful over the long term.

The QuitSmoking clinics at HHC facilities have helped tens of thousands of New Yorkers end their tobacco use. HHC offers individuals a variety of ways to stop smoking, including drug therapy, counseling and case management to help patients remain engaged in treatment. The majority of patients are treated with nicotine replacement therapies and/or related medications including nicotine patches and gums. Counseling services are customized to fit each individual "quitter."

The data presented here shows the number of individuals who were enrolled in HHC'S ten-week QuitSmoking programs during 2006-2010.
