Alvah Holmes, Former MOFTB Intern
July 1, 2009 -
Interns at the MOFTB never know where the experience can lead them. Alvah Holmes, who interned with the office back in 2005, is the latest example of a MOFTB intern who’s gone on to have an exciting career in the film and TV production here in New York City.
Originally from Eaton Rapids, Michigan, Holmes started his internship with the MOFTB just after he moved to the City four years ago. The experience was eye-opening for him. “I learned how everyone needed to go through the office to get permits,” he said. “It was a good way to meet people since I knew no one.”
MOFTB staffer Nicole Olsen, the intern supervisor at that time, remembered Holmes as a go-getter from his very first day. “He worked very well with everyone and was always helpful to customers with whatever they needed,” said Olsen.
After his internship ended in the fall of 2005, Holmes quickly went on to work on various productions around the City in the camera department, usually as an assistant cameraperson. “I've worked features, indies, television, music videos, documentaries, and industrials,” he said.
Presently, he’s working as the second AC on a feature film called Boy Wonder, and he’s also started to shoot more, an opportunity he hopes will continue to grow.
Holmes’ success in the City’s film industry comes as no surprise to the MOFTB staff who fondly remember him from his time as an intern. “His laidback cool demeanor paired with his positive can-do attitude allowed him to succeed in the frenetic-paced production world,” said Olsen.
