Officer Anton Ferrone, Member of FDNY, Dies at 49
February 1, 2007 The Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting would like to offer its deepest condolences to the family and co-workers of Anton Ferrone. Officer Ferrone, a member of the FDNY explosive unit for 18 years, died Sunday, January 28th; he was 49 years old. Ferrone is survived by his wife and three children.


DeNiro, Universal Bring 'Shepherd' to Berlin
February 1, 2007 On February 8, more than 19,000 film professionals from 120 countries, including 3,800 journalists, will head to Berlin, Germany for the Berlinale, or Berlin Film Festival. Close to 350 films are shown at the festival, among them the “Made in NY” film, The Good Shepherd, for its international premiere.


Professional Bull Riders Switch Saddles for Subway Seats
February 1, 2007 While New York City, and Wall Street in particular, are associated with the iconic bull, a new commercial featured one like never before. The Professional Bull Riders Invitational took place in Madison Square Garden on January 6th and 7th, but spots promoting the event took to the airwaves in December 2006 and early January 2007.


"Made in NY" Discount Card 'Family' Grows
February 1, 2007 The "Made in NY" card added more members in January to its family of vendors offering discounts of 10% or more.


Little Italy Landmark Effort Makes Push with Shelter Space
February 1, 2007 The Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting's February bus shelter campaign promoted Little Italy: Past, Present and Future. The film, available on DVD, is part of an effort to landmark Little Italy as an historic district, and is released by The Medici, Inc., a non-profit foundation working towards this goal.


With 8 Nominations for "Made in NY" Films, New York Courts Oscar
January 23, 2007 The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Oscar nominees this morning, and “Made in NY” films received eight nominations. The Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting applauds all of these nominees and wishes them the best of luck during the ceremony, presented live on ABC, Sunday, February 25th at 8pm, EST.


New York City Sets Record in 2006 for Highest Number of Film Production Days Ever
January 18, 2007 In 2006 the City of New York hosted the highest number of film, television, commercial and music video shoots ever, bolstering an industry that employs 100,000 New Yorkers and contributes $5 billion to the City’s economy annually. Last year the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting assisted 34,718 shoot days on public property, a 10% increase over 2005 when the introduction of the “Made in NY” incentive program set a then-record 31,578 shoot days in the City.


MOFTB, BAM & Time Warner Inc. Announce Free Panel for Students on Careers in Entertainment Production
January 17, 2007 On Saturday, February 3, the New York City Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, will present “Careers in Entertainment Production: Paths to Opportunity”, a panel discussion sponsored by Time Warner Inc. at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s BAM Rose Cinemas, located at the Peter Jay Sharp building, 30 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn NY. Industry insiders will participate as panelists and speak to students about breaking into and working in New York City’s entertainment production industry.


"Made in NY" Productions 'Golden' in 2006
January 16, 2007 "Made in NY" Productions were 'Golden' at the 64th annual Golden Globe awards. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced winners of the prestigious award last night, and three of the "Made in NY" nominees came out on top.

The new show, hosted by Mike Jerrick and Juliet Huddy, will feature celebrity interviews and segments on pop culture, family, health, relationships, entertainment and more.


"Made in NY" P.A.'s Moving On Up
January 1, 2007 Less than a year since the first graduates of the “Made in NY” Production Assistant (P.A.) Training Program began working in the industry, graduates are not only finding regular employment as Production Assistants, but are also starting to move up into more advanced positions in the industry.

Developed by the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting with our partner, Brooklyn Workforce Innovations, the program offers a free full-time month-long training course followed by two years of career development services (including job placement). The program was designed to provide a diverse group of New Yorkers with training for and access to career opportunities within the production industry, and to teach crews to work collaboratively with the communities in which they shoot.

Tax Credit Form "A" Gets Update
January 1, 2007 The initial application for New York City's five percent tax credit for qualified film and television productions (form A) has been revised to include “fillable” fields, so that the form may now be completed using Adobe Acrobat or Reader.

January 1, 2007 Last month, a dozen local businesses joined the 650 New York City vendors offering discounts to the entertainment industry through the “Made in NY” discount card program.


City "Shepherds" Publicity Campaign for "Made in NY" Project
January 1, 2007 The Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting's January bus shelter campaign promoted the “Made in NY” film The Good Shepherd. The film - which bears the “Made in NY” mark of distinction in its end credits - was directed and produced by Robert DeNiro, along with producers Jane Rosenthal and James G. Robinson, and stars Matt Damon, Robert DeNiro, Angelina Jolie and Joe Pesci. It traces the history of the CIA.
