Fest to Help Pilots Land Before Networks
September 1, 2005
From September 28- October 3, Greenwich Village will be home to the first-ever New York Television Festival. The festival will allow television producers, directors and writers to showcase pilots for possible distribution. It will also include panels, screenings and events designed to celebrate the history of television programming, attended by networks programming executives, managers, agents, artists and the general public.

Discount Card Slices Production Costs

It is more affordable than ever for production companies to do business in New York City, thanks to the “Made in NY” discount card launched by the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting in June. Since the launch, the number of participating vendors offering discounts to the industry on everything from props to post production, has grown to over 300.

AmEx in NYC’s Commerical Credits

This July, American Express shot a commercial campaign in New York City with tennis star Andy Roddick, entitled “Have You Seen Andy’s Mojo?”. The commercial features Andy’s alter ego enjoying a night on the town in New York City before his big game, and filmed at locations including the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Barney’s, Florence Gould Hall, the restaurant Matsuri, night club scenes at Blue Note and Kush, and the streets of the West Village and Upper East Side.

Mayor Hosts BBQ for Entertainment Industry

On August 3, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg hosted a barbeque at Gracie Mansion in honor of New York City's entertainment industry. The City's production industry employs 100,000 New Yorkers, supports 4,000 local businesses, and contributes $5 billion to our local economy on an annual basis. The event, attended by more than 1,000 members of the industry, featured "Made in NY" hamburgers and cookies, performances by Music Under New York and ices from Uncle Louie G.

Revised Rules for Theatre Incentives

In 1995, New York City enacted a new law under a subsection of the Commercial Rent Tax which offers theatrical productions in parts of Manhattan an exemption from rent tax for the first 52 weeks of production.

"Made in NY" Goes Digital
August 1, 2005
The Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting is promoting the “Made in NY” campaign on 77 Clear Channel Digital Street Network screens across Manhattan, primarily at entrances to the subway. The 10 second spots are playing once a minute through the end of August.
