Remembering Orbach
December 30, 2004 The Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting was saddened by the death of Jerry Orbach. Orbach shot on the streets of New York City for twelve seasons on Law & Order, television's longest running primetime drama. Orbach was also a veteran of the New York stage.


City Tax Credit Confirmed
December 16, 2004 The New York City Council yesterday passed a five percent tax credit for qualifying film and television productions which spend at least 75 percent of their budgets in New York City. The Credit is part of the Made in NY Incentive Program unveiled by Mayor Bloomberg in September.


Gotham's Golden Nominees
December 13, 2004 The nominations are in for the 62nd annual Golden Globes, and “Made in NY” productions once again lead the pack! This year, New York City-based productions are contenders in 16 of the 25 award categories.


"Man" Made in NY
December 1, 2004 Last month, the independent film Trust the Man shot exclusively in Manhattan. The film stars Julianne Moore, who lives in Manhattan and has become an icon of the local film industry. Her Big Apple credits include The Forgotten, Laws of Attraction, The Hours, and the forthcoming Marie and Bruce.


Mayor Gives His Regards to Broadway
December 1, 2004 On October 26, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg congratulated the recipients of the 2004 Tony Honors and saluted Broadway for its contributions to the City of New York.


Milestones for MoMA and Miramax
December 1, 2004 The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) reopened in midtown on November 20, with a number of additions to the museum's film and media department. The fully active curatorial department includes daily film screenings at the museum's theatre and an archive of over 25,000 works.


Phantom of the Great White Way
December 1, 2004 The Broadway production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera celebrated its 7,000th performance on November 10, becoming one of two Broadway plays in history to reach the milestone. The production has been seen by more than 10 million theatre-goers and grossed over $550 million over the course of its seventeen-year run on the Great White Way.


Rescue Me's Record
December 1, 2004 Rescue Me, a new television show being produced by Sony for F/X, is already setting records! The show is the number one rated new basic-cable television series for adults ages 18-49 this year.


Scouting Service for City Spaces
December 1, 2004 Scouting rehearsal or performance spaces in the City? The Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting website now links to Exploring the Metropolis, a non-profit organization funded by New York City's Department of Cultural Affairs and New York State's Council on the Arts. The organization offers a comprehensive database of over 1,000 spaces in New York City through the websites NYC Music Places and NYC Dance Places, and will launch NYC Theatre Places next year.


Spotlight on Sets in the City
December 1, 2004 Did you know that the pizzeria where Peter Parker works in Spider-Man 2, is Joe's Pizza at 233 Bleecker Street, and dialing the phone number on the helmet that actor Tobey Maguire wears in the film will actually connect callers to the pizzeria? Or that the scenes of Paris in the final episode of Sex and the City were filmed on Commerce Street in the West Village?
