NYC is 'Prime' Location

Producers have chosen New York City as the set of “Prime,” a love story about an Upper East Side woman and a younger man from Brooklyn. Starring Sandra Bullock and Academy-Award winner Meryl Streep, the Universal production will be filming in New York City for 40 days beginning next month.

The City’s prop houses are among the 4,000 businesses supported by our local production industry, and the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting (MOFTB) has partnered with some of these companies to showcase their goods to the hundreds of professionals in this industry who visit our offices each week. A Stroll Through Films Shot in Central Park

This month, the second annual Central Park Film Festival will pay tribute to one of the most filmed-in parks in the world. The festival, which will take place from August 24-28, will feature free outdoor screenings of Breakfast at Tiffany’s on August 24, The Manchurian Candidate on August 25, On The Town on August 26, Antz on August 27 and Tootsie on August 28.

Ten Takes on New York

New York City productions have taken an incredible 102 nominations for Primetime Emmy awards! The HBO film Angels in America has received 21 nominations, the most of any production, followed by The Sopranos with 20 nominations.

Danza Debuts in Daytime

The Tony Danza Show will soon debut in daytime! The new live, daily talk show will be hosted by Brooklyn-born star Tony Danza and produced at ABC Studios in Manhattan. The hour-long program will be syndicated nationally and will feature interviews with guests such as actors, athletes, newsmakers and remarkable children, as well as cooking experiments and occasional jaunts outside of the studio.

Runway Rooted in NYC

Miramax Television has cast New York City as the home of Project Runway, a new reality show that will begin production in Manhattan this month. The project focuses on aspiring designers who live and work in the fashion district, one of New York City’s many unique and cinematic neighborhoods.

RNC in NYC

Madison Square Garden has been cast as the home of the Republican National Convention (RNC) this summer! As a result, between August 21-September 5, no permits will be issued for production in the immediate vicinity of the venue. The frozen zone will extend from 29th Street to 34th Street between 5th and 10th Avenues.

Little Manhattan Thanks 'Big' Manhattan

The crew of the upcoming feature film Little Manhattan and the New York City Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting distributed free Haagen Dazs ice cream and coupons for ice cream to over 1,200 residents of the Upper West Side on July 29, in an effort to thank neighbors for serving as gracious hosts to recent filming in the area.

Leading Role for Latino Filmmakers

New York City is gearing up for the fifth annual New York International Latino Film Festival, which will take place from July 27-August 1 at the Florence Gould Hall on East 59th Street. On June 23, Mayor Bloomberg joined with festival organizers to announce the upcoming festival and to lend support for the event on behalf of the City.
