December 16, 2004 – The New York City Council yesterday passed a five percent tax credit for qualifying film and television productions which spend at least 75 percent of their budgets in New York City. The Credit is part of the Made in NY Incentive Program unveiled by Mayor Bloomberg in September.
“In the State of the City, I pledged to deliver a package of incentives that would support and attract film and television production, and I am extremely pleased that today the City Council has passed the New York City Film Production Credit legislation,” Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said. “Film and television production employs over 100,000 New Yorkers, and this measure is a critical component of our efforts to retain and attract production work for this key employment sector.”
“Already a number of productions including Fox’s Jonny Zero and Mel Brooks’ The Producers have committed to shooting in New York City as a result of the Made in NY Incentive Program,” Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, said. “The City tax credit will lure even more productions to shoot in the most cinematic City in the world.”
