December 1, 2005 – On November 14, Big Apple Greeter, “the organization that makes visitors feel welcome in New York City,” honored Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, at a benefit for the organization. Big Apple Greeters are New Yorkers who volunteer to share their inside knowledge of New York with visitors to the City, through tours of local neighborhoods.
“People across the world know New York and want to come to our City because of films and television shows they have seen which are set here,” Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting said. “It is a pleasure to be a part of an organization which brings the hidden treasures of our City to visitors from around the globe.”
“By honoring Katherine Oliver, we recognize both the important impact that film, theatre, and broadcast have on the economic health of New York City, and, most importantly, the impact those industries have on the positive image of the City in media all around the world," Lynn Brooks, Founder & Executive Director of Big Apple Greeter said. "It is appropriate that Big Apple Greeter, a program that generates thousands of positive New York City stories in print, television and radio outlets in all corners of the world, honors this great New Yorker."
