Tom Fontana and Barry Levinson to Produce New York Show

November 1, 2007 - Tom Fontana and Barry Levinson once again cast New York City as the star in their new show, “The Philanthropist.” The program will explore the life of a renegade billionaire who uses his wealth, connections, and power to help people in need no matter the risk, and is scheduled to air on NBC.

Universal Media Studios, along with The Levinson/Fontana Co., will produce up to 13 episodes of “The Philanthropist” to air on NBC, either midseason or fall 2008.

In describing the character, NBC Entertainment Co-Chairman Ben Silverman stated, “It’s an incredible, inspirational character who is dark and complex but also modern and contemporary. He is a young John Wayne without the uniform; he is James Bond-meets-Robin Hood.”
