November 1, 2007 - In October, New Line Cinema celebrated its 40th anniversary at Lincoln Center in New York City. Founded by Co-Chairman and Co-CEO Bob Shaye, New Line began as a small distribution company in New York City and is still run by Shaye, along with Co-Chairman and Co-CEO Michael Lynne.
Over the past 40 years, New Line has expanded to become a multi-media company, creating some of the most successful film franchises in history. Its most popular films include A Nightmare on Elm Street, Austin Powers, Wedding Crashers, and The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Recent New Line releases include the John Travolta and Michelle Pfeiffer movie musical Hairspray, Rush Hour 3, along with the upcoming The Golden Compass. Based on the first part of Philip Pullman’s trilogy His Dark Materials, the film stars Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig and is due out later this year.
The Mayor’s Office wishes to congratulate New Line Cinema on its 40th anniversary of moviemaking.
