November 1, 2004 - The impact of production in South Ozone Park has been extreme! ABC's television show Extreme Home Makeover: Home Edition recently rebuilt a home that had become uninhabitable for a Queens family. The production brought in a construction crew to completely renovate and furnish the home of Lucy Ali and her adopted sons.
“It is an extremely rewarding experience to see the impact of the show on the local community,” Location Manager Andrew Harrison said. “Not only did we change the life of the Ali family, but the entire community benefited from the production, which allowed their neighbors to return and improved the beauty and property values of the area.”
The show hired a local construction crew and local production assistants to work on the episode. “We try to do as much purchasing as possible locally,” Location Manager Milan Vasic said. “From catering and lodging to production vehicles and contractors, we invested substantially in the Queens community.”
The production company sent the Ali family on vacation during the reconstruction, and offered to put neighbors up in hotels if it became too noisy. After the seven-day makeover, hundreds of people lined the street to welcome the Ali family back to their home.
