October 1, 2007 - When it comes to the visual elements of a film, the role of a production designer becomes exponentially invaluable. Production designers select the settings and style to visually tell the story.
Kristi Zea, an Academy Award-nominated production designer on feature films ranging from Jonathan Demme's Beloved to James Brooks' As Good As It Gets, knows the challenges of making New York look like New York in movies. On Sunday, October 21st, Zea will take ticket holders behind the scenes with her stories about bringing these projects-and some others soon to be released--to life with the actors, directors and crew. One of the biggest challenges posed to her by directors is how to make New York look like a New York you've never seen. She'll divulge how in this fascinating talk.
The program is a part of Design Week in New York City. The weeklong celebration (October 15 - 21) of New York design will include a wide range of events and activities in film, shopping, museum, galleries, architecture, tours, workrooms and gardens, highlighting beauty and hidden treasures throughout the five boroughs. Design Week is the result of a collaborative effort between NYC & Company, the city's marketing and tourism organization, and House and Garden magazine.
