Emigrated Dubliner Makes New York City His

September 1, 2007 - New York City is both the setting and central character of the independent documentary Home. Set throughout the city, this “Made in NY” feature releases online on September 11, 2007.

Helmed by Brooklyn born and bred director Dawn Scibilia, Home examines the personal experiences of Dubliner Alan Cooke as a newly immigrated New Yorker. Interspersed between Cooke’s reflections on finding a sense of belonging in his newly adopted city are interviews with such New York notables as Mike Myers, Liam Neeson, Susan Sarandon, Rosie Perez, Pete Hamill, Fran Lebowitz and Alfred Molina. Natives and immigrants alike ruminate on their own search for home in the metropolis.

The film’s structure is intentionally organic and based directly upon encounters on New Yorker’s city streets. “New York is a river of humanity,” said Alan Cooke. “It has so many different elements, cultures, and architecture. The accessibility to such a wide range of people and places is unlike anywhere else. There is a kind of energy in the millions sharing the city, and our film captures the spirit of that.”

Home has been screened at film festivals in Europe, the United States and Australia, and recently earned best documentary award at the Mangers Boston Irish Film Festival in Boston. The Mayor’s Office of Film Theatre and Broadcasting congratulates Home on its success.
