Open Call for Reel Stuff

September 1, 2004 - Do you have the reel stuff? “Get Organized New York,” an auction and tag sale to take place this fall, is calling for donations of props, wardrobe supplies and other paraphernalia from film, television and theatre productions.

"Get Organized New York" is a joint initiative between Time Inc.'s Real Simple Magazine and the Fund for Public Schools. The project will feature a silent auction on October 13, an early bird preview sale on October 15 and a giant tag sale in Central Park on October 16-17. Proceeds will benefit New York City's public schools.

“Get Organized New York is a creative initiative to help City schools,” Mayor Bloomberg said. “Improving education for our 1.1 million schoolchildren is vital to our City's future, and we're grateful to Time Inc. and Real Simple Magazine for giving New Yorkers an opportunity to do so in such a fun and innovative way. I encourage all New Yorkers to take some time over the next few months gathering items from their homes and offices, and to come to Central Park in October to look for bargains and help our City schools.”

The organizers are particularly interested in high-profile donations from media and entertainment companies for the silent auction. Drop-off sites and neighborhood pickups will be available in all five boroughs.
