August 1, 2006 – The Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting has proposed revisions to the rules governing the City’s tax credit. Under the new rules, initial applications must be filed no more than 90 days prior to the commencement of principal photography. The deadline for filing final applications is being extended to 90 days, and the rules incorporate a new criterion for evaluating applications: whether an applicant agrees to include the MOFTB “Made in NY” logo in the screen credits of the qualified film, indicating receipt of the tax credit.
These new rules do not apply to initial or final applications submitted prior to the effective date of the amendments.
A hearing for public comment will be held on August 31, 2006, at 1697 Broadway, 6th Floor, New York, New York 10019, at 9:00 AM. Persons seeking to testify are requested to notify Associate Commissioner Julianne Cho at (212) 489-6710, or jcho@film.nyc.gov, no fewer than five (5) business days prior to the hearing. Persons requesting that a sign language interpreter or other form of reasonable accommodation for a disability be provided at the hearing are asked to notify Ms. Cho at the above address no later than two weeks prior to the hearing.
