August 1, 2004 - This month, the second annual Central Park Film Festival will pay tribute to one of the most filmed-in parks in the world. The festival, which will take place from August 24-28, will feature free outdoor screenings of Breakfast at Tiffany’s on August 24, The Manchurian Candidate on August 25, On The Town on August 26, Antz on August 27 and Tootsie on August 28. The films will be screened in Central Park’s Rumsey Playfield, located mid-Park at 72nd street off Fifth Avenue, at 8:00 pm each evening.
The festival, which is sponsored by Bloomberg L.P., will highlight the beauty and versatility of one of New York City’s most iconic and film-friendly locations. Central Park made its debut in the 1908 silent movie Romeo and Juliet. Since then, it has starred in more than 200 films, including An Affair to Remember (1957), The Producers (1967), The Out-of-Towners (1970), Marathon Man (1976), Manhattan (1979), Hair (1979), Ghostbusters (1983), Brewster’s Millions (1984), Fatal Attraction (1987), When Harry Met Sally (1989), Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), Die Hard With a Vengeance (1995), Vanilla Sky (2001), Two Weeks Notice (2002) and Anger Management (2003).
