Little Manhattan Thanks Big Manhattan

July 29, 2004
- The crew of the upcoming feature film Little Manhattan and the New York City Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting distributed free Haagen Dazs ice cream and coupons for ice cream to over 1,200 residents of the Upper West Side on July 29, in an effort to thank neighbors for serving as gracious hosts to recent filming in the area.

The ice cream was distributed by Ezra Swerdlow, Executive Producer of Little Manhattan, Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, and representatives from their offices, at the corner of 72nd street and Broadway.

“We couldn't be happier that Little Manhattan has cast ‘big’ Manhattan as a character in this film, and will be showcasing the rich and diverse character of the City's neighborhoods,” Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, said. “Film production employs thousands of New Yorkers, and we strive to balance the needs of production and residents on a daily basis. This ice cream is a cool thank you to residents when production gets hot."

New York City’s production industry employs 100,000 New Yorkers and contributes more than $5 billion to the City’s economy on an annual basis.

Little Manhattan, a New Regency Pictures production distributed by Twentieth Century Fox, has been shooting in New York City since May 2004. New York City is the most romantic place in the world - even if you're only 10 years old and falling in love for the first time. That's what young Gabe discovers as he pursues the object of his affections, his classmate Rosemary, in Little Manhattan. The romantic comedy is about life, love and the Big Apple, as seen through the eyes of a fifth-grader. The film, which stars Josh Hutcherson, Charlotte Ray, Bradley Whitford and Cynthia Nixon, took advantage of locations in the Upper West Side, West Village, and Central Park, where 24 live sheep were brought into the sheep meadow for the first time since the 1930's for the production.

“The streets of New York City have provided us with an amazing set for the filming of Little Manhattan,” Ezra Swerdlow, Executive Producer of Little Manhattan, said. “This event has given us an opportunity to thank the residents of the Upper West Side for making their incredible neighborhood available to our production.”
