Upfronts Reveal Seven New NYC Television Shows

A scene from the new NBC television show 30 Rock, which is based in NYC and stars Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Tracy Morgan and Rachel Dratch

May 18, 2006 - During this week's upfront presentations, the networks unveiled fall lineups which include seven new television pilots based in New York City, along with a strong lineup of returning productions.

NBC leads the pack, with “Black Donnellys,” Paul Haggis's story set in Hell's Kitchen about Irish brothers who become involved in organized crime, “Kidnapped,” in which everyone becomes a suspect after an Upper East Side family's teenage son is kidnapped, and “30 Rock,” in which Tina Fey stars as the head writer of a successful TV show who has to deal with a difficult boss and worry about ratings.

ABC's lineup includes “Six Degrees,” which focuses on strangers living together in the City and “Lets Rob..,” a comedy starring Donal Logue about a janitor who decides to rob a celebrity's apartment.

CBS has picked up “3 Lbs.,” a drama focusing on a brain surgeon, which shot its pilot outside of the City but has pledged to move to New York, and FOX will air “The Wedding Album," which revolves around a high-profile wedding planner and her photographer.

“The incredible number of new episodic television shows that will shoot in New York City is evidence of the success of the 'Made in NY' incentive program in attracting and retaining production business for the City,” Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting said. “Our local entertainment industry employs 100,000 New Yorkers and contributes $5 billion to our local economy annually, and these new productions will keep New Yorkers employed in this vital industry.”

Tune in to the networks to view these productions this fall!
