Newly-released Independent NYC Film: Downtown

By Kwame Patterson
May 1, 2007 - The critically acclaimed New York City film, Downtown: A Street Tale, hit the streets on Friday, April 20.

The cast, led by Joey Dedio, who also wrote and produced the film, also includes Chad Allen and introduces Domenica Cameron Scorsese - daughter of Oscar winning director Martin Scorsese – and French-Canadian actress Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominated Genevieve Bujold. The film will be released through Marty Zeidman’s Slowhand Cinema Releasing.

Downtown: A Street Tale follows a family of six lost souls struggling through the inevitable tragedies of life on the streets and the omnipresent threat of violence and drugs. Led by Angelo (Joey Dedio) the group scraps through life eating out of dumpsters, turning tricks, and paying frequent visits to the Haven House, a shelter for the less fortunate. There they are guided by Aimee (Genevieve Bujold), a counselor at the Haven House, who accepts their past and attempts to brighten their future. “Downtown: A Street Tale ” captures the tumultuous challenges of life on the streets; with an ultimate message of trial and redemption.

“This film is not only important to me” said Dedio, “but it is important to all persons, both young and old, ALL over the world, whose lives have been disrupted by chaos and madness. This film takes them down a spiritual journey offering them a solution of hope and redemption..."

Downtown: A Street Tale also features music from Grammy winner Petula Clark whose Grammy nominated song Downtown is performed by Academy Award, double Grammy, and Golden Globe winner Irene Cara. In addition, Petula Clark performs the original song “Children of Color” which becomes the theme song of hope for the film. The soundtrack will be available through AJM Records.
