Robert Redford announces the Sundance institute at BAM
May 1, 2006 - From May 11-20, the Sundance Institute at BAM will bring the best of last year's Sundance Film Festival to New York City. The event will feature screenings, performances, and discussion panels.
“We are pleased to bring to New York the spirit of Sundance,” Robert Redford, president and founder of the Sundance Institute said. “When BAM board member and philanthropist Jonathan Rose and I first discussed a series that includes the art forms that both our organizations support, it made perfect sense: a large number of our filmmakers, playwrights, actors, and advisors from films in our Festival and Labs live and work here and both organizations appreciate the creative process and bringing new works to new audiences.”
As the largest and most important center of independent filmmaking in the United States, New York City is always strongly represented at the Sundance Film Festival. This year, “Made in NY” productions which played at the Festival included Flannel Pajamas, Half Nelson, Man Push Cart, The Night Listener, Puccini for Beginners and A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, which took home the Dramatic Directing Award and Special Jury Prize.
