May 1, 2004 - It was Panda-Money-Um in the City when people in panda costumes paraded through Times Square, the Roosevelt Island tram, Grand Central station, the ferry and the subway this February! It was all part of production for a commercial currently on the air, in which pandas run around the City handcuffed to briefcases full of cards for the New York Lotto’s new game.
And an actual parade was simulated downtown on Whitehall, Beaver, Stone, Bridge and Pearl Streets for the filming of a recent Sierra Mist commercial – complete with floats, helium balloons, a marching band and bagpipers. The high-profile ad, which aired during the Super Bowl, featured a bagpiper cooling off near a subway vent.
In all, it’s been a busy year for the Big Apple: more than 200 commercials have shot in the City since January. The ads promote everything from Applebee’s to AT &T, and MTV to Maybelline. Contact the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting to let us know how we can help you to get the shots for your next spot!
