March 1, 2006 - This August, Cyndi Lauper shot a music video to accompany her new CD "The Body Acoustic," as well as still photography as artwork for the CD cover, on New York City’s Governors Island. The production used locations across the Island, including the esplanade overlooking New York Harbor, Colonels Row, interiors and exteriors of the houses at Nolan Park, and the ferry.
For Lauper, the Island offered a treasure trove of unique and exciting locations. "You can feel the history of New York and how it started at Governors Island," she said. "It is a magical place. I shot four different videos in four different parts of the island. Each section was built at a different era so it looked like I shot the videos on completely different locations."
In early 2003, Governors Island was returned to the public after two centuries of restricted military use. The 172 acre island, accessible via a five-minute ferry ride from the lower West side of Manhattan, features two early 19th century fortifications, stunning views of the Lower Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor, 2.2 miles of shoreline, hundred year old shade trees and landscaped grounds, two churches, a bowling alley and a movie theatre.
