FDNY Explosives Unit Loses 'Big Part' in Officer Anton Ferrone

February 1, 2007 – The Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting would like to offer its deepest condolences to the family and co-workers of Anton Ferrone. Officer Ferrone, a member of the FDNY explosive unit for 18 years, died Sunday, January 28th; he was 49 years old. Ferrone is survived by his wife and three children.

“Anton was a big part of this unit,” said FDNY explosive Chief James Lauer. “He was my assistant and a supervisor of this unit. We’ve been through a lot of difficult shoots and he always came out on top.” Permission of the unit is required whenever producers want to create a scene which involves fire. Officer Ferrone, as is everyone who is a part of the unit, was a licensed pyrotechnician, and would often help plan scenes with producers before official requests were made. Officer Ferrone will be missed by his partners in the explosive unit – Jim, Neal, Bob, John, Mark, Jake & Ron.
