MOFTB, BAM and Time Warner Inc. Announce Free Panel for Students on Careers in Entertainment Production

January 17, 2007 - On Saturday, February 3, the New York City Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, will present “Careers in Entertainment Production: Paths to Opportunity”, a panel discussion sponsored by Time Warner Inc. at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's BAM Rose Cinemas, located at the Peter Jay Sharp building, 30 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn NY. Industry insiders will participate as panelists and speak to students about breaking into and working in New York City's entertainment production industry.

Commissioner Katherine Oliver will begin the seminar with an interview with “Law & Order: SVU” star Tamara Tunie, who will share her personal experience working in New York City's entertainment industry and upcoming projects in both acting and directing. Following this conversation, Commissioner Oliver will moderate a panel discussion with several professionals who represent different sectors of the entertainment production industry. Panelists include:

Jono Oliver, First Assistant Director (LOVE MONKEY, THE HONEYMOONERS, GUESS WHO, BROWN SUGAR, LIFE SUPPORT)

Monty Ross, Producer (CLOCKERS, CROOKLYN, MALCOLM X, MO' BETTER BLUES)

Winsome Sinclair, Casting Director (INSIDE MAN, SHE HATE ME, 25th HOUR, THE BEST MAN, THE WEEKEND, SUMMER OF SAM, ILLEGAL TENDER)

Bill Toles, Composer (AMERICAN MASTERS)

“Our local entertainment production industry employs 100,000 New Yorkers and contributes $5 billion to our economy on an annual basis,” Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting said. “As we attract new production business to the City and create new jobs through the 'Made in NY' incentive program, we are working to ensure that a diverse group of New Yorkers have access to these positions, through programs such as this panel, the City's Diversity Task Force and our Production Assistant Training Program - a series of free, full-time, month-long training programs developed with Brooklyn Workforce Innovations. The panel begins at 10:00 am. Doors open at 9:30 am. Seating is limited and available on a first come, first served basis. Please RSVP to rsvp@film.nyc.gov by Thursday, February 1st. All panelists are subject to change
