February 1, 2006 – “Traffic Jam,” a commercial for Dunkin’ Donuts in which a cup of joe helps a New Yorker navigate through traffic jams, recently shot in the Big Apple. The production staged traffic jams on Broadway and 26th Street, where 30 picture cars and dozens of extras were brought in, and on the Clearview Expressway, where a traffic jam was staged with 100 cars, including buses and flatbed trucks.
Location Manager Kevin Breslin said the commercial could not have been created anywhere else. “Dunkin’ Donuts wanted it shot here no matter what,” he said. “No other city could look this realistic, in terms of both the traffic and the energy of the City.”
Breslin and Location Scout Anne Kuronyi said the competence of the NYPD Movie and Television Unit and expedited turnaround time provided by the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting (MOFTB) were paramount in producing the commercial.
“With a commercial, you have so much to accomplish in such a short time that the MOFTB was essential,” Kuronyi said.
