January 31, 2006 - The Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting today announced the eligibility of theatrical productions to partake in discounts at hundreds of vendors across the five boroughs, in an initiative that will lower the cost of theatrical production in New York and drive business to local communities. Beginning today, theatrical productions are eligible to receive the “Made in NY” discount card, which was launched this June for film and television productions and has grown to include more than 400 vendors offering goods and services at discounted rates to the industry.
Discounts are now available in 30 categories, including: Banking Services, Camera, Grip & Lighting, Casting, Electronics, Construction & Set Design, Digital Effects, Flowers & Gifts, Restaurants, Hair, Makeup & Wardrobe, Hotels, Insurance, Rental Space, Manufacturing Materials & Supplies, Moving & Storage, Music, Office Supplies, Post Production & Training, Production Crew, Props, Scenic Supplies, Stock Footage & Photography and Travel & Transportation. "Our valuable theatre community employs over 35,000 New Yorkers and draws tourists and the world's finest talent pool to New York," Katherine Oliver, Commissioner of the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting said. "By lowering the cost of theatrical production, we will strengthen and support a community which is key to the social, cultural, economic and historic fabric of the City."
The cards were produced by the NY Film Services Team at HSBC Bank USA, N.A.
