Katherine Oliver is the commissioner of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, which consists of the Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting; NYC Media; and NYC Digital. The agency’s mission is to streamline government communications by making information accessible, leveraging technology to aid in the transparency of government and by supporting relevant media and entertainment industries in New York City.
NYC Media is the official TV, radio and online network of the City of New York, informing, educating and entertaining New Yorkers about the City. NYC Digital's mission is to realize New York City's potential as the world's leading digital city and is guided by the Road Map for the Digital City, a comprehensive plan focusing on Access, Open Government, Engagement and Industry. The Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting provides premiere customer service to production companies and facilitates production throughout the five boroughs.
Commissioner Oliver was appointed Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting on August 1, 2002, and has overseen NYC Media since April 2009. She has also worked to diversify the City’s entertainment industry through career panels, educational initiatives and community outreach, including the “Made in NY” Production Assistant Training Program. Developed in partnership with the non-profit organization Brooklyn Workforce Innovations, this program trains diverse New Yorkers in entry-level production jobs.
Prior to her appointment, Commissioner Oliver served as General Manager of Bloomberg Radio and Television. She has also worked as a radio and television reporter for Bloomberg, CNBC, Financial News Network, WABC Radio, 1010 WINS and WBGO; and taught a journalism course at New York University.
