Members of the Rescue School Instructor cadre also design and fabricate many of the training aids used during the course. Upon completion of over 600 hours of FDNY course work our students are certified as Building Collapse Rescue Technicians by the NYS DOS Office of Fire Prevention and Control.

Rescue School is also responsible for the competency training of the FDNY’s five Rescue, seven Squad and the twenty five SOC Support Ladder Companies. Competency Training is accomplished through Periodic Education Days and daily hands-on training both in the field and at the Training Academy on Randall’s Island.

All Rescue School Instructors are members of the Special Operations Command that have been certified by New York State in Educational Methodology and have subject matter expertise in various fields including; Technical Rescue, Construction, SCUBA, Engineering, Heavy Equipment Operation and Rigging and instruct both locally and nationally. Additionally, many of our instructors are also members of FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Teams
