FDNY in action During the Past 100 Years

The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire of March 25, 1911, in Manhattan, claimed 146 lives, but was the impetus behind teh Labor Law which required automatic sprinkler systems, improved exit facilities, alarm systems, fire drills and rubbish removal.

The General Slocum Fire of June 15, 1904, in the East River, near the Bronx, was the worst civilian disaster in the history of New York City. A total fo 1031 people were killed.

Fifty workers died in the U.S. Constellation fire of December 19, 1960,in Brooklyn
