Traffic Sign Complaints


Report missing, illegible or vandalized signs by calling 311, or 311 online. Be prepared to give the exact location of the sign. DOT prioritizes repairs to signs which have a direct impact on safety. These include Stop signs, One Way signs, Do Not Enter signs, Yield signs and certain School signs.

DOT also replaces certain parking regulation signs if their absence causes confusion.

The Department's goal is to repair all safety-related signs within 9 business days.

Requesting a New Traffic Sign

Request a traffic sign by emailing to the Commissioner. DOT will conduct a preliminary study of traffic and pedestrian volumes, vehicular speeds, accident history, visibility, sign spacing, and other conditions. DOT will also will conduct a field investigation. This process takes some time to complete, but it provides traffic engineers with enough information to reach decisions that will be in the best interests of public safety and efficient street operation. A study will take approximately 12 weeks. If the installation of a traffic sign is deemed appropriate, it will be installation.
