Statement Regarding Injured DOT Employees

Shortly before 2:00 am this morning, three DOT employees working in Staten Island were injured when a pick-up truck sped through a closed worksite on Slosson Avenue striking the men, who were preparing the road for resurfacing. The three were taken to Staten Island University Hospital after uninjured members of the crew flagged down a passing ambulance. Upon arrival, Michael Moschella was treated and released and Louis Ciccotto was admitted and is currently in stable condition with a shoulder injury. Nicky Antico suffered severe head trauma and remains in critical condition.

"We are saddened and outraged at the events that unfolded on Slosson Avenue this morning. First and foremost our thoughts and prayers are with the three injured employees and their families," said Transportation Commissioner Iris Weinshall. "We are confident that the Police will locate the driver, who exhibited callous disregard for the well-being of our crew and the safety of everyone who was on the road last night."
