Who May Inquire?
Finance will only provide information to the surety (the person who posted the bail) or to another person to whom the surety has given a signed, notarized statement, giving that person permission to inquire.
Attorneys: An attorney may inquire about bail only the surety has assigned to him or her.

You will need the following information from your Bail Receipt to inquire about a refund:
- The docket number (or indictment number) given to the bail;
- The defendant's name;
- The date the bail was posted;
- The county where the bail was posted;
- The amount of bail that was posted; and
- Your name.

You must bring the original bail receipt and two forms of identification from the following list:
- A valid New York State driver's license or non-driver's ID;
- A passport;
- Your voter's registration card;
- An employment ID;
- Your utility bill; and
- Any ID with your signature, subject to the Bail Unit's discretion.
NOTE: Birth certificates and Social Security cards are not accepted as identification.
