Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE)
Information for Tenants
The Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE) Program offers eligible tenants a freeze in the amount of rent they pay. If a tenant is accepted into the program they will not have to pay any rent increases as long as they meet the program eligibility requirements.
The difference between the tenant’s frozen rent amount and the current legal rent is given to the owner of the building as a corresponding credit against their real estate taxes from the City of New York. This credit is referred to as a Tax Abatement Credit (TAC). Applicants must meet ALL of the eligibility requirements.

SCRIE Eligibility
For SCRIE eligibility, applicants must:
Be 62 years of age or older;
Rent an apartment that is regulated by the Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR) (i.e. rent controlled or rent stabilized apartments or hotel stabilized);
Have an annual household income of $29,000 or less;
For applications received in 2012, income eligibility is established by the applicant's income from calendar year 2011; and
Pay more than one-third of the household's aggregate disposable income for rent.

Tenant and Applicant Reports
The reports below show current or recent SCRIE tenants’ status and SCRIE benefit information. This report also includes all initial and renewal pending applications; these are applications that have been received by the SCRIE unit but have not been fully processed because it is incomplete. Applicants with a pending application will be sent up to three letters informing them of what they need to submit in order to complete their application. Please note if a renewal application is not received or incomplete, this will delay the renewal of the SCRIE benefit.
The reports are sorted by Docket number. There is a report for each borough. Scroll through the report or use the search function (CTRL-F) to find a docket number. The report will be updated weekly. |
