In April 2011, Commissioner Robert LiMandri announced a new citywide worker safety campaign, Experience is Not Enough, encouraging construction workers to use proper fall protection while working on the job site. The multi-lingual campaign is designed to emphasize that no matter how long workers have been in the construction trades and no matter how much experience they have, they need to use proper fall protection – such as safety harnesses, guardrails and netting – to protect themselves and fellow workers. Worker falls are the most common construction related accident in New York City and accounted for 42% of all construction accidents reported in 2010.
The Department is currently distributing posters, banners and bracelets to construction sites throughout the City. If you would like to post these materials at your construction site, please email safetyweek@buildings.nyc.gov.
