HEAP Can Assist with Energy Bills
The Home Energy Assistance Program is available to assist low-income New Yorkers with an annual supplement for the cost of heating their homes. The program is available to both homeowners and renters. If you are 60 years of age or older call 311 to request an application or print application from Website. Mayor Bloomberg, Speaker Quinn and the New York Academy of Medicine Unveil Blueprint to Enhance City's Livability for Older New Yorkers
Mayor Bloomberg, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and New York Academy of Medicine President Jo Ivey Boufford, MD, today outlined a series of 59 initiatives aimed at making New York a more livable City for its growing senior population. The initiatives in Age-Friendly NYC: Enhancing Our City's Livability for Older New Yorkers, which fulfill a promise made by the Mayor in his 2008 State of the City address, are a blueprint for promoting active aging focused on four areas: community and civic participation; housing; public spaces and transportation; and health and social services. DFTA's Annual Plan Summary and Public Hearings
Each year the Department for the Aging shares its goals and objectives with the public through its Annual Plan Summary. DFTA holds public hearings in each borough to illicit feedback on the plan. Seniors are especially encouraged to attend the hearings.

Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE) Program Transferred to the Department of Finance
Effective Friday, September 18, 2009, the SCRIE program has been transferred from the Department for the Aging to the New York City Department of Finance. The transfer will make it easier for seniors to apply for this important benefit. The eligibility rules have not changed.
