Watershed Forestry Bus Tour Program
Applications are due January 15, 2012.
The Watershed Agricultural Council's Forestry Program, in partnership with DEP, is offering grants of up to $3,000 for watershed-and-forestry field trips to the New York City water supply watersheds, east and west of the Hudson River. Programs can be for single day or overnight trips.
Grants are available to schools for 4-12th grade student trips, colleges and universities, youth groups, and other organizations within New York City or the Catskill/Delaware and Croton watersheds.
In 2011, 14 schools and community organizations explored the watersheds through bus tour grants. For example, the teens at Rocking the Boat visited the Ashokan Center for a day trip, 4th grade students from Stamford Central School partnered with PS 33 (Manhattan) to connect their watershed and downstate students, and teachers and students who participate in Trout in the Classroom received funding to release their trout in watershed streams in Westchester County.
