Sunnyside - Woodside Rezoning Adopted 7/28/11
The Department of City Planning is proposing contextual zoning map changes for approximately 130 blocks in the Sunnyside and Woodside neighborhoods in Community District 2. The proposal was developed in close consultation with community members, several civic organizations, and local elected officials. The proposed rezoning would protect the existing built fabric and character of these communities while directing new development opportunities to Queens Boulevard, a major corridor well-served by mass transit. The proposal includes two zoning text amendments to provide incentives for the creation and preservation of permanently affordable housing through the Inclusionary Housing Program along a section of Queens Boulevard as well as allow for the establishment of small sidewalk cafés along portions of Queens Boulevard and Skillman Avenue in order to foster a livelier streetscape while maintaining adequate pedestrian circulation space.
